After detonating two car bombs, al-Shabab terrorists stormed the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu late Friday night, shooting at random.
They killed at least 15 people and injured dozens after barricading themselves for hours on the top floor. After years of terrorist outrages, this was the first attack by al-Shabab, an al Qaeda affiliate, since Somalia’s new president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was elected in May.
“Al-Shabab already claimed responsibility for the attack saying they held hostage several politicians. They did not mention the names of the officials, but the group often carries out such attacks in the capital, Mogadishu, and many parts of the country,” says Somalia Police
Somali Police Spokesperson said that the Police forces are currently conducting operations near KM4 intersection after the terrorist attack on Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu on Friday.
The Police has suspended all movement and public traffic at the KM4 intersection.
After few hours,the Somali Police Special Unit have finally successded in rescuing many people trapped at Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu where the terrorists attacked and entered.
